Engineering

The Engineering branch leads the planning, design, and review of public infrastructure projects. This includes roadways, drainage systems, and utility coordination. The team ensures all public and private development projects comply with city engineering standards, zoning requirements, and state and federal regulations. We also support capital improvement planning and help guide infrastructure upgrades to support Brownsville’s continued growth.

Real Estate & Right of Way

The Real Estate & Right-of-Way branch is responsible for managing the use and maintenance of public right-of-way spaces. This includes reviewing and issuing permits for utility work, driveway access, and construction that may impact city property. The team also coordinates with utility companies, developers, and contractors to ensure all right-of-way activities are properly documented, safe, and in line with city regulations.

Construction Inspections

The Construction Inspections branch provides on-site inspection services for public infrastructure projects to ensure they are built to the approved plans and meet city standards. Inspectors monitor the quality, safety, and progress of construction activities, working closely with contractors and engineers throughout the duration of each project. Their role is critical in ensuring that completed work is safe, durable, and ready to serve the public.
